Growth, skin and acne
Fast growth and spots are an ordinary part of puberty, and spots are not caused by being dirty.

During puberty your body can grow very quickly. Some girls outgrow their clothes within a year. Girls often shoot up before boys do, so you might be the tallest in your class, or the opposite. Both are normal. Your hands and feet can grow faster than the rest of you, which may leave you feeling a bit clumsy for a while. Some girls also get aching legs at night.
As you grow, your hips get wider, a little fat settles on your thighs and belly, and your weight goes up. This isn't getting fat. It is a necessary part of healthy growth.
Why spots appear
Hormones make your skin produce more oil. When oil, dead skin cells and bacteria block a pore, you get a spot. Lots of teenagers get them. They don't mean you are dirty.
What helps
- Wash your face morning and evening with a gentle cleanser.
- Don't squeeze or pick, because that can leave marks.
- Don't scrub, and skip harsh scrubs.
- Choose light face products labelled as not blocking pores.
- Keep your hair clean and change your pillowcase often.
- Look after your sleep and eat regular meals.
You will find lots of online tips about lemon juice, toothpaste and alcohol. These can burn your skin and make things worse.
Pharmacies sell products for spots. Ask a pharmacist or doctor which one suits you. They don't work in a day, and it usually takes a few weeks to see a difference.
